It is common knowledge that almost everyone who goes through art school has a period where they assume that they will be a world-famous artists pretty in short order. Who can blame them…they are dedicated, hard working and extremely talented.

The Reality of Being an Undiscovered Artist

Unfortunately, for most of us it doesn’t work out in this kind of fairy tale fashion. Even if you have the talent, the commitment of a hardcore artist and more it can be next to impossible to be discovered. Discovery, if you haven’t learned this already, is very difficult. The art world is dominated by a handful of collectors, and you have to cater specifically to very certain tastes to make your mark as a world-famous, award-winning artist.

Future Artists: Don’t Get Discouraged

Fortunately, there is no shortage of art related work in the world. There are thousands of different art related jobs, and if you have the talent you’re sure to find something that appeals to you. The most obvious jobs related to art and in the field of graphic design and advertising. The internet has really allowed for this field to blossom and grow. I was a little bit skeptical about a career in graphic design when I first checked it out. I thought that there would be very little opportunity for self-expression, but it turns out I was wrong. But once you get into the ranks of a respectable graphic design company, your clients will give you a lot of autonomy to get the job done. Your aesthetics play a role in everything you do, and some of it is quite creative. Thus, you are branding all the work you do for your clients as your own. I was so glad I didn’t forgo that opportunity.

Another popular art related job is fashion design. Fashion design is very appealing to a lot of artists because it combines aspects of both design and creation. Other great career avenues include: freelance graphic design, comic books and illustrations and teaching both traditional and online students.
